Akagera National Park [12 photos]
Akagera National Park is home to the largest game collection in the country. If you desire an African Safari while in Rwanda this is it. The park is home to Hippo, Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, over a dozen species of Antelope – from the smallest Oribi to the largest Eland. Akagera is a birders paradise with more the 500 species, including one of them most sought after – the shoebill stork. Akagera National Park is over 1085 sq. Kilometers. The park is a filled with rivers, swamps, and lakes which allow for the large diversity of wildlife.
Ruhengeri's Volcano National Park [12 photos]
Ruhengeri's Volcano National Park is a part of the Virunga Mountains and a national park system shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is the home of the majestic Mountain Gorillas. Don’t miss this incredible experience! Volcanoes National Parks also hosts treks to see the beautiful Golden Monkeys as well as a trek to see the burial site for famed Gorilla researcher Dian Fossey. Please take note that there is a permitting process for these activities and spaces are limited. There is a daily limit of 56 permits for the Gorilla’s. Nyungwe National Park [12 photos]
Nyungwe National Park is the largest intact rainforest that remains within East Africa. Its high elevation is home to Chimpanzees as well as a dozen other primates. This most beautiful forest is also home to stunning flora and fauna not seen anywhere else in Rwanda, hosting over 100 species of orchids. While in Nyungwe you can also visit one of the rivers that is a source to the Nile River. Nyungwe is a paradise for hikers, botanists, birders, photographers and those that are longing to get out of the city.
Lake Kivu [11 photos]
Lake Kivu stretches form north to south along the western border of Rwanda looking out to the Democratic Republic of Congo. This beautiful fresh water lake is ideal for swimming and boat tours. There are three primary locations along the lake Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu. Lake Kivu is an ideal spot for a quiet respite or a day adventure out to Bat Island.

As Rwanda makes tremendous strides towards recovery it has made a commitment to never forget. As a result of this commitment there is an abundance of memorials that are dotted throughout the country. The primary Memorial is located in Kigali and is a most respectful testament to the lives lost as well as a phenomenal educational exhibit.
